What is a healthcare spending account?

A healthcare spending account, or HCSA, is a benefit that provides reimbursements for valid medical and dental expenses, up to a certain maximum amount of money each year.

The WorkersFirst HSCA can be used to cover any medical or dental expenses allowable by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), including things like:

  • Prescription Drugs

  • Dental Check-Ups and other procedures (not including aesthetic procedures)

  • Licensed Paramedical Expenses (for example, registered massage therapists, physiotherapists, chiropractors, etc.)

  • Vision Care (eye exams, prescription lenses, frames, contact lenses, etc.)

  • The cost of private or semi-private hospital rooms

  • The cost of medical travel insurance

  • Medical supplies and equipment (orthotics, hearing aids, etc.)

  • The cost of any deductibles, co-pays or other out-of-pocket costs associated with any other health benefit plan you or your spouse may be a member of
